The Buddha taught that we are all spinning due to our habits of greed, anger and delusion, long enough to have become wise and dispassionate regarding all this unhelpful activity in our minds and in our world. What is it that we are not seeing clearly enough that keeps this spin spinning? The Buddha’s teachings encourage us to stabilize present moment awareness so that we can begin to see how natural and impersonal all this inner and outer activity actually is. Understanding the river of experience in this way leads to a natural letting go and the releasing of the burden of attachment, fear and all dependence. This retreat will provide the supporting conditions for us to do this inner work together and to learn from the Buddha’s instructions and from each other. The retreat will include talks, discussions, guided meditations, and guided mindful movement practice.

The inner tangle and the outer tangle, these people are entangled in a tangle.
So I ask of you Gotama,
Who can disentangle this tangle?

One established in virtue, deeply knowing, developing mind and wisdom,
a cultivator ardent and discerning:
she can disentangle this tangle.
Those for whom lust and hatred,
along with ignorance have been dispelled, the arahants with impulses ended:
for them the tangle is disentangled.
Where both name and form
stop without the least remainder,
also impingement and recognition of form: it is here this tangle is cut.

For our 2021 at home retreats, three fee tiers are offered. Please choose the option that best fits your ability to give in this time. Any amount paid above the Base rate is a tax deductible contribution to Southern Dharma Retreat Center. Your confirmation email is your receipt for tax purposes.

We are deeply grateful for your support.

Registration fees do not include dana for the teacher. In the Buddhist tradition the teachings are offered freely and teachers are not paid for their offerings. They rely on dana contributions from students. Similarly, Southern Dharma keeps registration fees low to ensure the Dharma is accessible to all. Fees cover only a fraction of Southern Dharma’s operating expenses. We appreciate your practice of generosity to continue the dissemination of the Dharma!

Southern Dharma is now offering 50% scholarship awards for BIPOC and young adults in addition to those with financial need. Indicate your interest in a scholarship during the registration process. More information available here.
