ON-SITE: Radical Self-Care During Times of Challenge LOTTERY
Lama Rod Owens
December 2 - 5, 2021
We are living through a tough period as we continue through a pervasive pandemic, economic instability, political unrest, climate change, and various forms of systematic violence. As a result both the individual and collective grief and trauma seems overwhelming. This is a time for radical self-care to tend to our own broken hearts so we can tend to the brokenheartedness of our communities. In this retreat we will explore deep and sustaining practices of self-care grounded in the wisdom of Buddhadharma. Lama Rod will guide retreatants through practices based on his latest book Love and Rage while focusing on practices for tending to the overwhelming struggle of moving this period.
Capacity: Spots for this retreat will be awarded by lottery. We will award 12 spots on November 1st and an additional 10 spots on November 18th. Everyone registered for the lottery at the time of the first selection will also be in the pool for the second selection. If you are selected from the pool, you will have 48 hours to complete your registration. Program fees are listed below.
Check-In from 4-6pm on start date of the retreat. Early arrivals may be accommodated; email registrar@southerndharma.org to request. Departures will take place by 2:00pm on last day of retreat
Until further notice, registration for our residential programs is restricted to individuals who have or will receive their final Covid-19 vaccination at least two weeks before their arrival on site. We will be restricting total retreat capacity to allow for comfortable, unmasked participation, as well as the option of outdoor dining. Please be prepared to present proof of your vaccination upon request.
Thank you for your understanding as we work to ensure the safety of our staff, teachers, retreatants, and larger community!
- Base rate: $340
- Supporter rate: $400

Scholarships and Fellowships (BIPOC, Young Adult, Need-Based, Hemera) are available. We encourage those who wish to be considered for a Hemera Contemplative Fellowship to apply for the Fellowship as early as possible. You do not need to be registered for a retreat in order to be approved for the Fellowship program. For all other forms of support, please make your request during the registration process.
Program fees do not include dana for the teacher. In the Buddhist tradition the teachings are offered freely and teachers are not paid for their offerings. They rely on dana contributions from students. Similarly, Southern Dharma keeps registration fees low to ensure the Dharma is accessible to all. Fees cover only a fraction of Southern Dharma’s operating expenses. We appreciate your practice of generosity to continue the dissemination of the Dharma!
Housing and all meals are included in the program fee.
Southern Dharma is now offering 50% scholarship awards for BIPOC and young adults in addition to those with financial need. More information available here.
This program is also eligible for Hemera Contemplative Fellowships! Apply here before registering.
