[At Home] Jhanas, Satipatthana and Dependent Origination: An Online Retreat for Experienced Students
Leigh Brasington
July 16 - 26, 2026
This retreat combines the two main elements of the Buddha’s model of liberation: cultivating the meditative absorptions (jhanas), which lead to calm and clarity, and using the concentrated mind to gain insight in the nature of reality. We will not only look at the insight practices given in the famous Satipatthana Sutta, we will also delve extensively into the Buddha’s teaching of the dependent origination (paticca-samuppada) of phenomena.
Prerequisite: This course is limited to those who have completed at least two one-week or longer silent retreats, either residential or on Zoom.
Teachers: Leigh Brasington, assisted by Meagan Chambers
Every full day of retreat there will be two 90 minute teaching and guided meditation sessions taught by the teachers. These sessions build upon one another, so it’s important to be able to attend all teacher-led sessions to participate in this retreat, including the opening and closing sessions, which will also have teachings.
In addition, all participants will have two individual practice interviews with Leigh, and one individual practice interview Meagan to support your practice.
The teachers expect those participating to be following their own meditation retreat schedule of sitting and walking meditation during the periods we are not in the whole group session, in which they can put the teachings and meditation instructions into practice over time.
This is designed to be a fully immersive retreat. As such, retreatants are welcome to conduct their formal meditation practice from their homes or, if it is more supportive, from rented accommodations.
